Yichen grew up in Shenzhen, China, and studied in Singapore during high school and junior college (Hwa Chong). She decided to apply to the Huntsman Program because she was attracted to the unique curriculum combining business and international studies, which cultivates a global perspective in business. During college, she was an active member of the Wharton China Business Forum, and she co-founded Chinese Music Society with a few friends. Though she had originally applied to the Huntsman Program with target language in Chinese, she decided to target in French upon joining for a new cultural experience. With no prior French background, she took accelerated French courses at Penn and was able to study alongside French students at La Université Lumiere de Lyon II during junior year. She enjoyed the study abroad experience immensely and came back with many treasured memories.
Upon graduation, she joined McKinsey's New York Office and has advised high-tech and media clients on topics ranging from strategy to operations transformation. Yichen says that the Huntsman program broadened her world-view and gave her a passion for learning. She sees her decision to join McKinsey as a continuation of that passion, as consulting gives her exposure to a wide range of management problems across geography and industries. Yichen currently lives in Manhattan, New York with three fellow Huntsmanites!
