Pawel Adrjan

Class: 2001

Hometown: Szczecin, Poland

High School: Bahrain School

Target Language: French

Study Abroad: Aix-en-Provence, France

Pawel was born in Szczecin, Poland, but spent most of his teenage years in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain before entering the Huntsman Program in 1997. Having lived in different cultures and traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Arabian Peninsula, Pawel was attracted to the program by its unique international dimension, the only one of its kind in the Ivy League. As part of the Program’s study abroad component, he spent a semester in Aix-en-Provence, France, where he took classes in economics, literature, and culture at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques and the American University Center of Provence. Back on campus in Philadelphia, he pursued his interest in languages by taking advanced courses in Spanish, Russian, and German and living in the Modern Languages residential program. In addition to a Finance concentration in Wharton and the International Studies major in the College of Arts & Sciences, Pawel also obtained a major in French.

After graduating from Penn in 2001, Pawel moved to New York and began working in the Credit Risk Management & Advisory group at Goldman Sachs. Spanish skills and Wharton coursework came in very handy, as Pawel’s responsibilities included the coverage of emerging market clients and managing risks related to the firm’s Latin American portfolio. After spending 5 years in New York, Pawel currently lives in London where he continues to work for Goldman Sachs and – in an effort to keep busy – is now working on his Portuguese.
